I recently was able to stop by and see some trophy-quality guppies from a breeder here in Houston.  Golly gee they are beautiful.  For a fish that is so small and can so easily breed, there are so many different genes that are so hard to isolate and therefore those phenotypes are not seen widely.  Green Terrors and other cichlids for example have more so been limited to a couple strains here and there but for guppies, relatively, there is like an endless chart of genotypes!

After seeing his collection, no wonder these guppies are so expensive even though they breed like crazy: the colors that he managed to get and the amount of notes and tracking that had to be done was so extensive!  One strain that caught my eyes were his full black Moscow Guppies.  Seeing something so dark compared to the usual bright and colorful strains really sets it out.  Along with the guppies’ active personality, these little ones were just mesmerizing!

I was able to get a couple of HB Red’s from him (basically half black body with red tail).  My dad used to have guppies a long time ago and so I wanted to get him back in the hobby and so he also has something to do during his free time.  Of course, I’ll be keeping a couple for myself also so I can mess around with the strains… =)

The other night, my roomies decided to go out for a drive somewhere.  They wouldn’t tell me where but just made me get dressed and pushed me into the car.  We ended up at Tinseltown because they wanted to watch Harry Potter…  REALLY GUYS?!  -_-

Well, Lyna and Huan was already inside so we met up with them.  The theatre was packed with little kids!  The movie itself, I guess it wasn’t that bad.  I stopped at the book before this one so I had no clue what was going on, but was able to follow the plot.  There were no retarded scenes like in Transformers 2 (don’t get me started).  So I guess, without having read the book, this movie was pretty good.  Way better than Transformers 2 at least.

Funny thing happened the other day:  I went out to a local fried chicken place near my house with a friend.  When we walked in, there were these two guys and a cop sitting at a nearyby table.  The two men called over to us, “Hey my mans, you wanna buy some CD’s or DVD’s?  We have them all!  Special price today, you can have any 3 for $15!”  So I’m kind of thinking, ‘Wow, this is pretty awesome–the cop guy is just sitting there right next to the black market operation eating his chicken legs, not giving a dime what’s happening!’

My friend says he’ll probably take a look at it after he orders.  So while we’re ordering, that guy manages to get some business from some random guy and still the cop just sits there.  I guess it wasn’t a undercover ops but legit (or so to speak).

Anyway, I just find that pretty funny but also cool as heck!  =)  Maybe I’ll set up a ‘Get Your Operating System’ once a new one comes out and cracks begin developing… =)

Just Rescue Me please…

The last time I kept up with any computer technology was probably more than 5 years ago.  That was when everything was simple:  Intel was way behind AMD, there was only one set of RAM, hard drives over 500gb was only dreamt about, and GeForce/Radeon lines had less than 3 series.  Now, Intel has far surpassed AMD (though mainly through marketing), there’s now DDR3 along with the older DDR2 and the first DDR, 2TB (that’s 2000GB) hard drives are now in use, and nVidia/ATI now have 3476274+ different series of cards (over exaggeration of course, it’s more like 10?).

Well, about a year ago I bought an HP Laptop for ~$700 shipped.  Specs: Intel Core2Duo T7500 2.2ghz, 2gb RAM, 120GB hd, GeForce something something graphics, HDMI output… Yep, you heard me correctly, all that for around $700.00!  In today’s market, that’s probably still a standard if not over powering most others.  However, due to the University of Houston’s network being so poorly integrated with Windows Vista, 95% of the time I cannot wirelessly connect and thereby defeating my main purpose of getting a laptop!  So, I just sold it a couple days ago for $600.00!

Now I’ve decided to just build another rig.  I’ve built two computers in the past, first one in 5th grade with the majority of the work being done by my cousin, and the second one all by myself (yes, you can say that again to the tune of huggies, i’m a big kid now).

Since I’ll be moving out, I’ve decided to make this a multimedia rig instead of for gaming, though it’s basically the same thing except for i’ll be getting no graphics card but instead high end sound/tuner.  This way, my computer will double as TV/Home Theatre/etc…

Now the goal here is to make a multimedia/soft gaming rig but only using up to $600.00, the price at which I sold the laptop.  Possible?  Haha well this is why I’m going back with AMD!  With AMD’s processor, you get more out of the box, a crap load more, for a fraction of the cost.

For now, we’ll call this Project AKUMA.  That should already tell you exactly which cpu will be in use…  =)  In the end, cost must be <$600.00, completed < SC2/Diablo3, 22-24″ LCD, comparable to $1000.00 setup from Dell or HP.  Let the games begin!

VSA’s Date Auction was nothing compared to what these people can do.  University of Houston’s 2nd Feed the Sexy is a charity date auction where you can bid on contestants using a point system.  Once a bid ends, the bidder will bring in an item worth such as books, clothes, shoes, toys, canned foods, etc, which would be worth a specific number of points.  These items will be donated to an orphanage if I remember correctly.

The event was pretty entertaining.  And man, they were definitely Sexy!

The Hotel Cafe Tour just passed by Houston on Saturday night at the Meridian’s Red Room.  The girls were AMAZING!  Every single one of them had so much energy that lasted throughout the entire night.

I had brought my camera along but when I got to the entrance, the ticket guy wouldn’t let me bring it in.  /sigh/ Later that night, I saw an acquaintance from school and he had his Canon with him.  Somehow, he managed to bring it in but without sneaking it in.  Weird… Anyway, I arrived a little bit late, but I think that was the very first act of Priscilla Ahn.  She is gorgeous!  Pictures seriously do not even capture half her beauty!  Haha, call me a stalker, but man, I wish I was older, lived in California, and knew how to play a harmonica just so I could try my luck with her…  =)

One new performer on the tour was Laura Jansen.  I talked to her afterwards and she said this was her first tour.  I would have never known if she hadn’t told me afterwards; she was just so into it and looked as if she’s always been doing tours!  She was amazing on the piano!  Her Soljah song is my favorite!  There was also another song that caught my attention: Wicked World.  The lyrics are pretty cool!  Here’s a vid of it from a previous show…

I could go on and on with each performer saying how utterly awesome they were, because I mean, even Ingrid Michaelson,  whom didn’t really excite me when I heard she was on Tour, but she really did change my mind afterwards.  Ingrid’s songs are pretty good, I still think the other performers are way better, but Ingrid’s ability to capture the audience and get them involved and up and going was great!  She has got to be one of the best live perfomers just because of that.  Erin Mccarley and Meiko sounded even more wonderful in person than what I had expected.  I got an autographed CD from Meiko afterwards!  WooT!

Anyway, if you’re reading this and have a chance to go see the Hotel Cafe Tour, I would definitely say it’s worth going.  These performers outshine the big names you hear on the radio everyday, seriously!  I’ll end this with a poll:  who’s YOUR favoirte singer out of these five?!

**Update** I forgot to add that Greg Laswell also performed that night.  He played a very soothing version of “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” on the piano.  Check out that version on his Myspace!

OMG OMG OMG!  Sorry, little girly moment…  Anyway, Priscilla Ahn is coming to Houston!  WOOP WOOP!  Last time she came to Austin but the venue she was playing at was a 21+ only so I was left out in the side alley weeping like a little baby who lost his favorite choo choo train toy.

Sorry sorry, no more retarded analogies from now on.  I promise.  But yea, The Hotel Cafe Tour is coming around this time to Houston at the Meridian again.  The only thing that makes this a way better show than last time is that Priscilla Ahn is going to be there!  Oh, there’s also Meiko, Erin McCarley, Katie Herzig, and the-ever-so-popular-but-in-my-honest-opinion-is-over-rated Ingrid Michaelson (but yea, her song was pretty catchy and I admit, I was addicted to it in the beginning).  The show is this coming Saturday night at The Meridian’s Red Room!

I am definitely not missing this chance to catch an intimate live performance from Priscilla Ahn!  I would love to go with someone else or a group so if you’re free that night, give me a shout!
